2008 WAPF Convention: Bridgetown
The 2008 WAPF Convention was held on the Foundation Day weekend in Bridgetown. For those new to club photography, the aim of all WAPF conventions is to bring individuals from all the WAPF member clubs together for a weekend of “Fellowship through Photography”. This was certainly achieved with some 60 people attending this year’s convention. The combined competitions proved to be a success also and attracted more than 100 slide entries, 247 colour prints, 122 nature prints and 152 mono prints.

Nick Melidonis wins at APPA 2008
At a recent black tie award ceremony in Brisbane, Nick Melidonis received the 2008 “Australian Professional Landscape Photographer of the Year” award. This is the third time Nick has won this award so understandably, he is over the moon about it. The awards are called the ‘APPA’s’ which is an acronym for the Australian Professional Photography Awards where professional photographers from Australia and New Zealand compete for a number of industry awards by submitting four images, which are judged by a panel of their peers
Below are Nick's winning images. The shot of the ducks in a misty Maastricht dawn got a gold and the Amsterdam and Kolmanskop ghost town shots got silver distinctions. The West Australian is running a small article under “parting shot” in the West Magazine either this weekend or next on the Kolmanskop shot.

Congratulations Nick on winning this well deserved award.
